Hip Hop companies

 Chaslen Osler, Director

Our hip hop companies are competitive teams focusing on hip hop, funk, and freestyle dance. PCD has two hip hop teams: Stellar Stars and Voltage. Our hip hop teams select company members by audition. Interested dancers should be 8 years of age or older by the date of the audition, and have dancing ability to qualify them for participation in competitions and conventions, as well as our other company performances (Teamwork, Spring Recital, etc.). Selected conventions for the year will be made known to students upon acceptance to the team.

Hip hop company auditions are open to all dancers, whether previously enrolled at PCD or not. However, company members are expected to attend their weekly hip hop company class. Because the company class will be oriented towards learning choreography, dancers are strongly encouraged to enroll in additional hip hop, jazz, and other technique classes to maintain and improve technique, strength, and flexibility.

Hip Hop Company Requirements

  • Hip Hop Company members must be enrolled in their weekly company class. As this company class will predominately be used for choreographing material for the upcoming competition season, we require dompany dancers to enroll in one additional hip hop or jazz class to maintain technique.

  • Regular class attendance is mandatory and strictly enforced. Dancers are allowed up to three (3) excused absences. This includes family emergencies, illness, and school commitments. An unexcused absence or more than three excused absences are grounds for removal from the team, and will be discussed by all the directors of the Hip Hop Company. The office should be notified via email every time a student has a conflict with class and will be absent or late.

  • Attire and appearance for all classes must be professional and clean. Hair MUST be pulled away from the face and secured so that it does not become undone during class or rehearsal. If a dancer does not adhere to dress code, they may be asked to leave class. Dancers may dress in dance or fitness attire with loose fitting clothes (like sweat pants or a shirt) on top. They should have a clean pair of tennis shoes or sneakers to wear inside the studio; these should NOT be worn outside at all in order to maintain the quality of our studio floors.

  • In addition to their spring competitions, dancers are required to participate in our NorthPark Christmas performance, Teamwork Concert, and PCD Spring Recitals. All performances and competitions are mandatory.

  • Hip Hop Companies will each learn and compete with at least one number per level.

Questions about tuition and fees may be directed to the PCD office.
